Manatee Inland Migration to Start Soon as Water Temperatures Fall

Manatees should soon be on the move as their annual fall migration inland to escape cooler winter conditions along the coast.
Their immune system can't deal with colder temperatures, and the sea cows can get cold stress illnesses once water temperatures dip below 68 degrees, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Coastal water temperatures are just a few degrees above that, according to the National Weather Service in Ruskin.

Local Student Launches Beach Basket Program at Grayton Beach
The natural beauty of Grayton Beach is known to draw visitors from all over the word and generations of locals to stick their toes in the sugar-white sand and relax in nature.
South Walton High School student Hannah Smith wants to empower beachgoers to help keep the place they love to visit clean and beautiful with a new pilot beach basket program. The city of Destin's Holiday Committee will be forming to survey and select the best Christmas holiday decorations within the incorporated areas of Destin in six major categories:
• Best Decorated Business: This will include restaurants, shops, department stores, schools, professional offices, etc.
• Best Decorated Condominiums: This category includes condominium entrances and property.
